Are you looking for the best honeymoon destinations in the USA?
Let me start by saying congratulations on making the big plans to tie the knot (Insert party emoji here). Although wedding planning can be fun, it’s not as exciting as planning the honeymoon (in my personal, not-at-all biased travel blogger opinion).
My husband and I took an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon 6 years ago and its one of the reasons I am hooked on all things USA travel. It was magical!
No passport? Limited time off? Zero interest in flying all the way across the world? Whatever the reason for wanting to stay closer to home…No worries! There are SO MANY epic honeymoon destinations right here in the USA.

15. Willamette Valley, Oregon
- Best time to visit: June-October

Tucked away in the heart of Oregon, the Willamette Valley is a totally underrated honeymoon destination with over 700 wineries in the region. With serene, natural beauty, plenty of wine and romantic retreats that make it the perfect destination for newlywed couples celebrating their nuptials.
If you’re looking to relax in nature after your big day, then this is it! The valley’s landscape is something else; from rolling hills, luscious vineyards, and charming towns with plenty of history.
The region’s reputation as a wine lover’s paradise precedes it, particularly famous for the Pinot Noir vineyards. Make sure you book into at least one of the wine tastings and one vineyard tour (You could these tours as a day trip from Portland!)
No matter the time of year, you’ll find the landscape spectacular, but in Autumn is when the vineyards are particularly impressive as they turn from resplendent golds to deep reds. Sipping world-class wines while surrounded by the valley’s serene beauty in autumn is the perfect place to make some spectacular memories.

- Best time to visit: June- August
- Where to Stay: Cruise Ship!
I can speak from personal experience here…An Alaskan Cruise is one of the very VERY best honeymoon ideas in the US. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation (sea days), and adventures (excursions). It requires very little planning as you are likely exhausted from wedding planning (I was anyways).
Throughout the duration of the cruise, you will get to stop at several different ports each with unique sights and activities. Excursion highlights include a helicopter ride complete with a glacial landing, snorkeling (yes in Alaska!), and a boat safari ride.
You can of course choose your excursions based on the interests of you and your spouse! But, the sea days are equally as amazing as you will spot wildlife, glaciers up close, and float through amazing Fjords.

If you’re an outdoorsy couple looking for an unforgettable and unique way to kick off your United States honeymoon, consider a getaway to Glacier National Park. This park is home to towering mountains, fields of wildflowers, and endless adventure around every corner!
Any visit to Glacier should start off with the driving the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which has been routinely voted as one of the most scenic drives in the United States. 22. Big Island Road Trip
- Best time to visit:
- Where to Stay: Two nights in Hilo, two nights in Volcano, and two nights in Kona
Although its extremely hard to pick a favorite Hawaiian Island…the Big Island maaaaay be mine. It’s so diverse and full of exciting adventures!
When we visited, we just spent 3 days there, BUT it would be the PERFECT road trip honeymoon in the US.
Start your road trip by flying into the Hilo airport. Start your honeymoon off with some good ol’ waterfall chasing. Near the Hilo airport, you’ll find Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, and PeePee Falls. Then, grab your headlamp and head to Kaumana Cave to explore a massive lava tube.
Make sure to save time to explore the quaint downtown and stop at the Hilo farmer’s market.
Then continue south on your road trip to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (my personal favorite). Here, you can hike, take scenic drives, find more lava tubes, and if you are lucky, catch a glimpse of lava from the Kilauea overlook. The visitor center is also great to learn a bit about the island and the park itself.
There are so many cozy B&B’s to choose from near the park that will be the cherry on top of this adventurous honeymoon (we stayed in this one).
Finally end your road trip by heading up to the sunny west side of the island. Kona is home to some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Have a beach day (or two) and end your honeymoon with a Nighttime Manta Ray Snorkel!

- Best time to visit: California’s climate is great at any time of the year, but the best wildlife-spotting happens December to April.
- Where to Stay: Recommended honeymoon road trip stops in:
A road trip down California’s famous Pacific Coast Highway is a very romantic way to spend your honeymoon in the USA. Taking in some of the most beautiful vistas in the state, you will see natural wonders, wildlife, rocky promontories, and amazing bridges.
Some of the best stops along the coastal route south of San Francisco include Monterey, an ex-fishing and cannery town, Big Sur for the views, and Cambria for its proximity to Hearst Castle, the Elephant Seals of San Simeon, and Morro Rock.
For a heart-stopping view out over the rocky coastline, visit Nepenthe Restaurant in Big Sur. Accessible to all budgets, you don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy the sea and Santa Lucia Mountain Range views.
A road trip along California’s Highway 1 would ideally be about one week in length, but you can explore a good part of this coastal road in 2-3 days. Leave room for those romantic dinners, whale-watching off the Monterey coast, and sunset hikes in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
