Dog-friendly Things to Do in Stowe
The outdoor possibilities to enjoy with dogs in and around Stowe are endless, but here are some of the best dog-friendly things to do in Stowe that I recommend checking out!
1. Stowe Recreation Path
The Stowe Recreation Path is one of the best scenic places to walk your leashed dog in Stowe! It’s one I frequent with my dog because it’s a nice and long stroll, but still easy. It’s also a wonderful way to get your pooch interacting with other humans and pets.
You can take a leisurely stroll or a bike ride along this picturesque 5.3-mile paved path used by walkers, runners, and cyclists in the spring, summer, and fall. The path starts in the historic Stowe Village and then ends at a classic covered bridge. Many of the dog-friendly shops and restaurants are accessible from the path which is a bonus!

- Hours: 24/7
- Physical Address: The path starts behind the Stowe Community Church on Main Street although several other parking areas exist along the way.
2. Smuggler’s Notch State Park
I still pinch myself that I live somewhere where I can access such incredible hiking and gorgeous scenery. One of my favorite Stowe hikes is heading up to Sterling Pond! The Sterling Pond Trail is definitely one of the most popular hikes in Smugglers’ Notch. Once at the top, it’s fun to unleash your dog and let it swim in the pond as long as others around you are OK with that.
Most hikes in Vermont have some steep rocky sections and Sterling Pond one fits that description. Be sure your dog is able to scramble up rocks and know that sometimes the trail can be a bit wet and slippery. There are other worthy hikes to consider as well in Smugglers Notch, all steep with amazing views.

- Physical Address: Take Route 108 north about 9.7 miles to the top of Smugglers’ Notch and park on the left in the scenic parking area.
3. Gondola SkyRide
Ascending the slopes of Mount Mansfield on the Gondola SkyRide at Stowe Mountain Resort with your furry companion by your side is likely an experience you’ll never forget. The gondola soars above the treetops and there is a stunning panorama of the Green Mountains spread out before riders.
If you’re considering taking your pup on this alpine adventure, I recommend going early to avoid the crowds. Also, allow time to enjoy the hike down the mountain if you want to go by foot

- Hours: Mid-June through Mid-October. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

4. Percy Farm Corn Maze
Visiting the Percy Farm Corn Maze with a leashed canine companion creates memorable moments for sure. Entering the towering stalks of corn is my personal favorite because of the homespun aromas of harvest and hayrides that fills the air.
If your pup is anything like mine it will trot happily beside you, sniffing at rustling leaves and hidden nooks. My dog’s happy spirit and playful antics added to the experience. If you’re planning a trip to the corn maze this fall, I recommend going mid-week to avoid crowds and bringing plenty of treats and water for your pup.

5. Wiessner Woods
Wiessner Woods in Stowe offers a peaceful retreat for walking your dog! The winding trails through mixed hardwood and evergreen forest provide a quiet escape. The mostly flat terrain on this 2.8 miles trail makes it suitable even for senior or joint-issue dogs.
A scenic creek runs through the woods, its trickling water providing a soothing soundtrack for you and your furry friend. In autumn, the golden, red, and orange foliage creates a stunning backdrop for your walk.
Wildlife sightings will catch your dog’s attention – deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and birds abound!

6. Waterbury Reservoir
Do you love to go swimming or paddle boarding with your dog? While pets are not allowed at Waterbury Center State Park, you can drive just a bit further to the Blush Hill Rd access spot and this will guarantee that you can head out into the water with your furry friend!
Waterbury Reservoir is stunningly gorgeous and easily earns its status as one of the best Vermont lakes! You will see a lot of dog owners here with their pets enjoying the summer weather, especially at sunset.

- Physical Address: At the end of Blush Hill Rd, Waterbury Center, VT
7. Stowe Mountain Auto Toll Road
Driving the Auto Toll Road in Stowe, Vermont is a scenic adventure worth taking. Go on a clear day and you’ll enjoy exceptional views of Lake Champlain and The Adirondacks.
Once you start the drive, you cannot really turn around so be sure you are ready! It’s barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass one another. If you are not used to driving on narrow sketchy gravel roads with steep drop-offs, skip this activity.
But if you brave the “unimproved dirt road” and the steep ascent, your reward is arriving at the top of beautiful Mt Mansfield without having to hike up! Intentionally placed planks of wood direct visitors and their dogs where to hike and enjoy the view so delicate vegetation can be preserved.

8. Ben and Jerry’s
Visiting Ben and Jerry’s is a must-do activity if you are in the area! It’s only a 15-minute drive from Stowe and it is one of the best things to do in Waterbury, VT so you must go if you love ice cream.
Side note, did you know that Ben and Jerry’s makes frozen dog treats called Doggie Desserts?
The Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard Tour is a fantastic option for dog owners, as they allow leashed pets on the grounds. The visit offers an excellent opportunity to explore the graveyard where the beloved flavors that were discontinued are fondly remembered. I personally miss the Creme Brulee flavor!
Overall, Ben & Jerry’s Factory is a fun-filled activity for all ages, both for its dog-friendly environment and flavorful treats, providing a great break from the road with something for everyone to enjoy. However, entry into the factory area is restricted for dogs.

Stowe Public House & Bottle Shop is a retailer with an impressive selection of over 700 beers that welcomes dogs! You can also enjoy the outdoor seating area with your furry friend. You can either taste beer and cider during your visit, sit on the porch with your beer and dog, or buy to take home.

Shaw’s General Store is a classic iconic local shopping destination for the community since 1875! With an array of items from outdoor gear to specialty food items you can enjoy shopping here with your leashed pup.

Von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall is a brewery and restaurant that offers a dog-friendly atmosphere. You can bring your dog with you to enjoy the outdoor seating area or the indoor Bierhall, where they are welcome to join you at the communal tables.
Von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall serves a variety of Austrian-inspired food and drinks, including their award-winning lagers and ales brewed on-site.

2. Ranch Camp
Ranch Camp is a restaurant and bike shop that welcomes dogs in their outdoor seating area. You can bring your furry friend with you to enjoy a meal or a drink while taking in the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Ranch Camp serves a variety of delicious food and drinks, including craft beer, cider, and wine, as well as sandwiches, salads, and other tasty dishes. The restaurant also features an on-site bike shop, where you can rent or purchase bikes and gear to explore the nearby trails.

Idletyme Brewing Company serves a variety of handcrafted beers and delicious food, including burgers, salads, and other pub-style fare. The restaurant also features a cozy indoor dining area with a fireplace, as well as a spacious outdoor patio with plenty of seating.

4. Sushi Yoshi
Sushi Yoshi is a Japanese restaurant that offers a dog-friendly outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your meal with your furry friend. Sushi Yoshi serves a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes, as well as a selection of beer, wine, and sake. It is a very delicious option and one of my favorite places!
The outdoor seating area is covered and heated during the colder months, making it a great spot to dine year-round. Keep in mind that dogs must be leashed and well-behaved, and you should always check with the restaurant ahead of time to ensure that the outdoor seating area is open before you go.

The restaurant features a wide range of unique delicious American cuisine that is made using locally sourced ingredients. The menu has options for everyone, including vegans and vegetarians. The staff at the restaurant is friendly, helpful, and always welcoming to both humans and their furry companions.
