Portland, OR
As experience by Matt at Wheatless Wanderlust
If you’re looking for an incredible weekend getaway for Valentine’s Day that involves amazing food and drinks, from food carts to donut shops, and access to some of the most stunning natural beauty in the country, look no further than Portland, Oregon.
Portland’s food scene is second to none, in my opinion. Full of locally owned small-batch, artisanal spots making everything from donuts to bao buns, the best way to spend a weekend in Portland is to eat and drink your way through the city.
You might have read about Voodoo Donuts or seen it on Instagram, and it’s cool for their novelty donuts. But locals know that the best donuts are found elsewhere. Namely at Blue Star Donuts, who have locations around the city, and at Pip’s Original, where you’ll find made-to-order donut holes that regularly sell out.
Over the course of the weekend, you’ll probably want something other than donuts, and Portland has you covered there too. For a dinner you won’t forget anytime soon, head to Toro Bravo for some spectacular Spanish food, or Han Oak for authentic Korean food in a homey space.
Book lovers definitely shouldn’t miss the best independent bookstore in town, Powell’s Books, where you could spend days wandering the aisles lined with shelves looking for your next read.
If you’re looking to get out to see some of the incredible landscapes in Oregon, look no further than the Columbia River Gorge. Rent a car (or take a tour) to get out to Multnomah Falls, a towering year-round waterfall just 30 minutes outside of Portland.
The location of Portland’s Airport (PDX) is convenient – it’s just 12 miles from the heart of Downtown Portland, which is a short Lyft ride or a slightly longer MAX ride (that’s Portland’s overground tram system) away.
Romantic Thing to do in Portland
- Get lost in a book at Powell’s Books
- Marvel at Multnomah Falls
- Take a hike through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
Where to Eat on Valentines Day in Portland, OR
- Toro Bravo– Spectacular Spanish food.
- Han Oak- Authentic Korean food in a homey space.
Where to Stay in Portland, OR
- Jupiter NEXT Hotel– Located on the east side of the river with amazing city views.
- Ace Hotel – Right smack in the middle of downtown Portland.

Denver, CO
As experienced by Kara at Destination Live Life
But first – let’s discuss the elephant in the room. Yes, it is true that Denver International Airport (airport code: DEN) is in no way conveniently located to the city! On a good day with no traffic, it will take you at least a 30 minute drive to get to downtown Denver. Or you can hop on the light rail for a more direct (and hands-free) option that takes approximately 37 minutes to downtown.
Once the transportation is handled, you’ll be in pure couple’s getaway bliss. And while the best area to stay in Denver will vary from person to person, you can’t go wrong with basing yourself downtown. This will ensure you’re in close proximity to all the incredible things to do in Denver! The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is an incredibly luxurious and romantic hotel option.
While in Denver, make sure to take your honey on a romantic date in Denver’s historic Larimer Square. Strolling arm-in-arm under the twinkling lights is a favorite past time in the city. While here, be sure to have an incredible Italian meal at Osteria Marco. It’s loved by locals and tourists alike! After dinner, visit nearby Corridor 44 – Denver’s only champagne bar with inventive champagne cocktails for the perfect night cap.
Romantic Things to do in Denver, CO
- Explore the historic Larimer Square
- Hike through Magical Rocky Mountain National Park
- Sip inventive champagne cocktails at Corridor 44
Where to eat for Valentine’s Day in Denver, CO
- Osteria Marco- For an incredible Italian meal.
- Sushi Den- Enjoy fish flown in directly from Tokyo!
Where to stay in Denver, CO
- The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa– (Personal Recommendation) With 6 restaurants and an on-site spa, you really would never even have to leave!
