History of Indian Springs
The history of Indian Springs dates back to the 1300’s when the Ute Indians were the first to appreciate the therapeutic qualities of the mineral-rich hot springs. Fast forward to the mid 1800’s, the land was sold due to frustration of only finding water and no gold.
The new owner began welcoming visitors in 1863 whom were seeking the healing powers of these natural wonders. Throughout the years, it has seen various transformations and renovations, preserving its historical charm while offering modern amenities to its guests.
Getting to Indian Hot Springs Resort in Colorado
Getting to the Indian Hot Springs Resort is extremely simple. At just one hour from the Denver Airport, they are actually the closest hot springs to Denver and could make for a great day trip. However, I highly recommend spending a weekend right in Idaho Springs. In addition to the hot springs, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at all the adventures in this quaint mountain town.
Tip! If you aren’t planning on staying at the Hot Springs Resort, be sure to book a room at the nearby Uplift Inn! Check out my full review of the stay here!

What is there to do at Indian Hot Springs Resort?

- Geo-Thermal Caves
- Outdoor Jacuzzis
- Private Indoor Pools
- Club Med
- Spa Treatments
About the Main Mineral Water Swimming Pool
The main mineral water swimming pool is a great choice if traveling with your family. It’s open for all ages and housed inside the plant-filled dome. You’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to a tropical destination! The temperature is typically between 90-100 degrees F, and there is a small amount of chlorine used to ensure its safe for all guests.
- Hours: 8:30am-9:00pm Price: $20 (Weekdays), $25 (Weekends)
About the Geo-Thermal Caves
We choose to spend our time in the Geo-thermal caves (+ the mud room below). The caves are located downstairs and you are instantly transported to an underground oasis. There’s a locker room and showers before you enter, and then you’ll see 4 pools with varying temperatures (108-112). The entire cave is extremely hot as well, so you will feel as though you are in a sauna while soaking.
It is important to note, that the caves are 18+ and swimsuits are optional during the week. They are, however, gender specific.
- Hours: 8:30am-9:00pm Price: $24 (Weekdays), $28 (Weekends)
About Club Mud
This was a fun add-on to our experience! After soaking in the caves for a bit, we headed to the mud rooms (you have to walk through the lobby and down the stairs on the other side). Once in the mud room, you’ll see tubs of mineral-rich clay to rub over your entire body. Then, there are chairs for you to lay and relax as the clay dries and absorbs toxins from your skin.
There’s one shower in the mud room to clean off before going back to the caves.
- Hours: 8:30am-8:00pm (last entry at 7:00 pm) Price: $14 (Weekdays), $18 (Weekends)
About the Private Outdoor Jacuzzis and Indoor Pools
The private indoor and outdoor pools are available to rent prior to arriving. These are great if you are looking for some privacy, or not wanting to share the cave pools with others. You pay per person and select your time slot online.
About the Spa Treatments
For those seeking an extra layer of relaxation, the Indian Hot Spring Resort’s spa offers a variety of treatments, including massages, cupping, and hot stones. You then get access to the caves and mineral pools for free.
Where do I buy tickets?
There are no reservations required for the caves, main pool, or club mud. You can simply show up and purchase your tickets at the front desk. If you are hoping to schedule a spa treatment or reserve a private pool, you have to do that online prior to arriving.

Personal Reaction to the Indian Hot Springs Resort in Colorado
Truthfully, I was unsure what to expect before visiting the Indian Hot Springs Resort in Colorado. We mentioned our visit to a local prior to arriving and she replied with hesitation and stated it looked “sketchy”.
BUT it turned out to be a a truly magical experience and I would 100 percent return. The building is old and a bit run down, but I believe that adds to the historic charm (it’s important to remember it’s been open for 100+ years).
The soothing waters of the cave hot springs and the unique experience of the mud room led to a memorable time! ANDDD it was the perfect place to relax after hiking a grueling 14er!
The resort’s historical charm and modern amenities struck a perfect balance, making it an inviting place to unwind. I hope to check out the main pool next time and maybe even splurge on a spa treatment.
