This family-friendly beach offers calm waters for swimming (if you dare...Lake Superior is chilly!), picnic areas, and stunning views of Lake Superior. It's an ideal place to relax, soak up the sun, and enjoy the serene island atmosphere. It's just a short 2-block walk from the ferry stop! 2. Window Shop Stroll through the quaint streets of downtown La Pointe and enjoy some window shopping. The local shops offer a variety of unique items, from handmade crafts and jewelry to souvenirs and local art. It's a great way to get a feel for the island's creative spirit. 3. Rent a Bike Explore the island at your own pace by renting a bike (or e-bike) from Motion To Go. With scenic trails and quiet roads, biking is a popular way to see Madeline Island. It's an eco-friendly and enjoyable way to discover the island's hidden gems and breathtaking landscapes. Bike rentals start at $12 an hour with full-day options available. 4. Explore via Moped For a fun and adventurous way to get around, rent a moped from the same shop. Mopeds offer the freedom to explore more of the island's scenic routes and picturesque spots. It's a thrilling way to experience the island's natural beauty. Motion To Go is open from May 20 2023 through October 22nd 2023 (it is Wisconsin after-all), and runs on a first-come-first-serve basis. 5. Visit the Library The Madeline Island Library is more than just a place to borrow books. It serves as a community hub with programs and events for all ages. Take some time to relax with a good book, access free Wi-Fi, or attend one of the library's many cultural events. 6. Tour the Museum Learn about the island's rich history at the Madeline Island Museum. The museum features exhibits on the island's Native American heritage, fur trade history, and the settlement of La Pointe. It's an informative and fascinating way to spend an afternoon. The museum is open from May 25th- Oct 19th and costs 10 dollars per adult. 7. Dine with a View Enjoy a meal with a view at one of the island's waterfront restaurants. Whether you're craving fresh seafood, a juicy burger, or a gourmet meal, dining with a scenic backdrop of Lake Superior adds a special touch to your culinary experience. We ate at the Beach Club (pictured above) and I enjoyed the Fish Fry with views of beautiful Lake Superior. 8. Take a Hike Madeline Island offers a variety of hiking trails for all skill levels. From short nature walks to more challenging hikes, you'll find paths that lead through lush forests, along rocky shorelines, and to breathtaking overlooks. It's a perfect way to connect with nature. We enjoyed the Bay View trail which is an easy 3.1-mile hike with amazing views and unique rock formations along the way. We were thrilled to hunt for the treasured agates by the shore! 9. Grab a Drink at Tom's Burnt Down Cafe Tom's Burnt Down Cafe is a must-visit spot for a laid-back drink and a unique atmosphere. This open-air bar (it actually did burn down in 1992) is famous for its quirky decor, live music, and vibrant community vibe. It's the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring and is the definition of a local dive bar! 10. Go Birding (Casper Trail Observation Deck) During our day of exploring the town, we spotted a trail on the map right in the middle of town! We of course had to check it out. After stopping by the library, we continued to find the start of the Casper Trail. It's a 1.2 trail from Big Bay Road to Middle Road. Along the trail, birdwatching enthusiasts will love the Casper Trail Observation Deck. This spot offers excellent views for spotting a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. Bring your binoculars and enjoy the tranquility of birding on the island. 11. Air Charter (BW Air Charter) For a truly memorable experience, take an air charter tour with BW Air Charter. See Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands from a bird's-eye view, marveling at the stunning landscapes and crystal-clear waters. The ride starts in Duluth and travels along Lake Superior's South Shore with a landing on Madeline Island. It's an unforgettable way to experience the island's beauty. 12.Golfing Madeline Island's golf course provides a beautiful setting for a round of golf.
