Renting a car in a new city is always a bit of a stressful situation. You’re usually already exhausted from the travel day and ready to make it to your hotel. Thankfully, DiscoverCars makes the process of renting a car as easy as it can be. We recently used the DiscoverCars booking engine when visiting the Big Island and not only were we able to save money (I mean who doesn’t like a good deal), the entire process was stress-free! Here’s a guide to renting cars using the DiscoverCars Search Engine!

What is DiscoverCars?
DiscoverCars is a popular car rental search engine that allows customers to compare prices and book rental cars from most of the major car rental companies worldwide. The website is easy to navigate and provides a straightforward booking process. You can search for rental cars by destination, pick-up and drop-off dates, and car type.
Pros of Using DiscoverCars:
One of the biggest advantages of using DiscoverCars is that it allows customers to compare prices from multiple car rental companies in one place. This feature can save you a lot of time and effort compared to visiting each rental car company’s website individually. Additionally, DiscoverCars often offers exclusive discounts and deals that are not available directly from the car rental companies.
I scoured the reviews and found many customers who have praised DiscoverCars for its competitive pricing and easy booking process. The website is user-friendly, and the customer support team is responsive and helpful. Many customers have also appreciated the transparency in pricing and the absence of hidden fees.
I found all this to be true when using it to book my rental car on the Big Island!
Cons of using DiscoverCars to Book a Rental Car
As always, I will always be transparent in my reviews. Although I didn’t have any issues booking or with the car itself I found some complaints in the reviews.
Some customers have reported issues with the condition of the rental cars they received from the car rental companies booked through DiscoverCars. Others have also complained about unexpected fees, such as insurance or additional driver fees, that were not clearly communicated during the booking process.
It’s important to read the terms and conditions for the specific rental car company that you will be booking with to be the most prepared. DiscoverCars sends out a clean and organized voucher with instructions after booking (see image above).
Every single time I’ve rented a car (no matter what search engine I have used), there will be additional fees at the counter (insurance, tolls, additional drivers, etc.) This has nothing to do with DiscoverCars itself. Be prepared for these and always call beforehand if you are on a tight budget.
Tip! Some credit cards offer rental car insurance. It’s definitely something to look into if you are trying to save money!
Other Things to Remember When Booking a Rental Car
No matter what search engine you book a rental car with, there are things you need to remember/do before picking up your car. I’ve seen a lot of people overwhelmed due to being unprepared at the ticket counter. Hopefully, these tips will save you some stress.
- Most rental car companies require you to be 25 to rent a car (or you’ll pay a hefty additional fee).
- Insurance is additional at the counter. Check with your credit card company or personal insurance to see if you are already covered.
- Make sure to keep in contact with the rental car company if you will be late as most companies will cancel your reservation after a certain amount of time.
- Double-check if the rental car facility is right at the airport or if it requires a shuttle.
What to bring with you:
- You need to bring the SAME credit card you used to pay online (it must match the name of the primary driver).
- Your driver’s license (of course).
My Personal Recommendation
Overall, DiscoverCars is a reliable car rental search engine that can save you time and money when booking a rental car. I will most definitely be using them in the future! As when booking anything, it’s always important to carefully review the rental agreement and any additional fees before finalizing your booking to avoid any surprises.
I’m a BIG ADVOCATE for renting a car when you are checking out new places. With a car, the adventures are truly endless. Check out all my weekend itineraries here to start planning the most epic USA adventure!
