Hiking Trails in Wisconsin (All the Details!)

1. Big (and Little) Manitou Falls
- Location: Pattison State Park, Douglas County
- Length of Hike: 1.6 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Easy
- Dog-friendly: Yes (on leash)
Big Manitou Falls, the highest waterfall in Wisconsin at 165 feet, provides a short and easy hike that leads to stunning viewpoints. The trail meanders through lush forests, over bridges, and past the lake offering a peaceful setting and ample opportunities for photography.
I grew up just 5 minutes from this state park, and didn’t appreciate the beauty until moving away. It’s a must-stop!
Psst: If you aren’t up for the full hike, there are parking lots close to each waterfall for a short stroll instead.
2. Glacial Pothole and Ice Age Trail
- Location: Interstate State Park, Polk County
- Length of Hike: 1.6 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Dog-friendly: Yes (on leash)
This trail offers a unique glimpse into Wisconsin’s geological history, featuring glacial potholes and scenic views of the St. Croix River. The Ice Age Trail section showcases diverse terrain, including rocky outcrops and dense forests.
After exploring the park, be sure to take a ride on the scenic riverboat and explore more of the charming Taylors Falls!
3. Lime Kiln Trail
- Location: High Cliff State Park, Calumet County
- Length of Hike: 1.9 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Dog-friendly: Yes (on leash)
The Lime Kiln Trail takes hikers through the rich history of High Cliff State Park, passing by historical lime kilns and offering panoramic views of Lake Winnebago. The trail features varied terrain, including woodlands and open fields.
4. Meyers Beach Sea Caves Trail (Lakeshore Trail)
- Location: Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Bayfield County
- Length of Hike: 4.3 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Dog-friendly: No
This trail offers breathtaking views of Lake Superior and the famous sea caves of the Apostle Islands. The hike is moderately challenging, with sections along rugged cliffs and forested paths, providing stunning vistas of the shoreline and caves.

5. Devil’s Doorway

Devil’s Doorway is an iconic rock formation in Devil’s Lake State Park, accessible via a short but steep hike. The trail provides stunning views of the lake and surrounding bluffs, with rocky paths and steps adding to the adventure.
It’s just 30 minutes from the Waterpark Capital of the World, so be sure to schedule some waterpark time! I personally loved The Kalahari!
6. Witches Gulch
- Location: Wisconsin Dells, Adams County
- Length of Hike: 2 miles round trip
- Difficulty: Easy
- Dog-friendly: No
Just down the road from Devil’s Lake State Park, you’ll find Witches Gulch. Although this is more of an experience than a true hike, it’s still deserving of a spot on this Wisconsin hiking list!
You will have to join a boat tour to access the hike. The easy boardwalk trail allows visitors to explore the mystical landscape, with plenty of opportunities for photography and sightseeing. There’s even a concession stand at the end.

7. Geneva Lake Shore Path
