I have lived in Dallas for the last 7 years and I feel as though I have explored just about every option available. That’s the fun part of moving to a new city. Although it is easier to leave my pup at home while exploring in Dallas (than elsewhere in the states), he still enjoys an occasional close-to-home adventure. I have put together an ULTIMATE list of dog-friendly things to do in and near Dallas, TX, and the greater DFW area that goes BEYOND THE DOG PARK.

Dog-Friendly Things to do in Dallas, TX
Stroll along the Katy Trail
Take a stroll through Dallas on the 3.5-mile (paved) Katy Trail. Along the trail, be sure to stop at Katy Trail Icehouse for dinner and a famous margarita. The trail and restaurant are typically pretty busy, so it’s smart to get on the waitlist before your walk!
People watch at Klyde Warren Park
Klyde Warren Park is a unique 5.2-acre park right in the middle of Dallas. You and your pup can grab a bite to eat off the food trucks, borrow a board game (for free), people watch, play in the dog park, or catch a special event. It’s a must stop during any Dallas getaway!
Mckinney Ave. Trolley
After spending some time at Klyde Warren Park, head over to the Trolley Stop for a dog-friendly (donation-only) tour around Dallas. The round-trip ride will take just over one hour, but you are welcome to get off and explore other parts of Dallas (like the giant eyeball!)

Let’s Roam offers three different dog-friendly Dallas scavenger hunts with the use of a self-guided app. They are a fun and informative way to explore different parts of Dallas with your pup! You can choose between a Deep Ellum Mural hunt, a tour around the Dallas Arts District, or an ultimate scavenger hunt of Dallas’s top landmarks.
Cedar Ridge Preserve
Cedar Ridge Preserve welcomes hikers and their leashed dogs Tuesdays through Sundays. You will feel as though you have entered Texas’ Hill Country even though you are still in Dallas! With over 9 miles of trails, butterfly gardens, native trees, and wildflowers, you will forget you are even still in the big city.
Dallas Farmers Market
The Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10am-5pm on Sundays. You and your dog can stroll through the open-air pavilion and shop for fresh produce, breads, and local and international foods. There are also some craft vendors set up throughout. In addition to The Shed, dogs are also welcome on Market Patios. Just be sure to always keep them on a leash and bring your own bags to clean up.
Dog-friendly Things to do NEAR Dallas
Fort Worth Stockyards
The Fort Worth Stockyards are definitely one of my favorite places in the DFW metroplex. When you think of Texas, I automatically think of longhorns, cowboys, rodeos, and country music….the Stockyards give you exactly that. The “real” Texas feel.
You and your dog can watch the daily cattle run (at 11 and 4), window shop, people watch, and grab some BBQ at Riscky’s. There’s even an outside mechanical bull that you could ride (if you have someone with you to take turns with the pup!)
Cedar Hill State Park
Just 30 minutes from Downtown Dallas, you will find the perfect nature escape! This state park sits on the shores of Joe Pool Lake and makes for a great place to hike, swim, or paddle. There are over 25 miles of trails to choose from that take you past different overlooks, ponds, and even an old farm.
Grapevine Lake (Rockledge Park)
If you are still looking for more hiking and nature, Rockledge Park is the perfect dog-friendly stop near Dallas. You and your pup can wander along the 18-mile Northshore trail and admire the views of Grapevine Lake, the sailboats, and the kayakers.
After your hike around the lake, head to downtown Grapevine for some window shopping and a bite to eat.
Heads up! My dog did get sick after swimming in this lake. Be sure to check water conditions or proceed with caution if letting your pup go for a dip. In the future, I will stick to the trail. There is a 10-dollar fee to enter as well.
Trinity River SUP
Grab your pup, rent a paddleboard with Backwoods Paddle Sports, and head down the Trinity River. You will be right in the heart of Fort Worth will city views all around you! After renting, the employees will explain your different route choices and you will be on your way.
They also rent kayaks (solos and tandems) and canoes, or you can bring your own to launch at Panther Island!
Note: They do require all dogs to wear a life jacket. If you do not have one you can rent one for just $5.00!
Magnolia Market

Any Fixer Upper fans out there? Magnolia Market was created by Chip and Joanna Gaines and features shopping, a bakery, cafe, food trucks, and a fun outdoor courtyard (complete with yard games). Dogs are actually allowed in the buildings as well (except for the bakery and cafe). The market is open Monday-Saturday from 9 am- 6 pm. Be sure to check here for any special events.

Fort Worth Water Gardens
A unique outdoor art display that would make a perfect spot for a picnic! The Fort Worth Water Gardens are free to visit and are open year-round to explore.
Tip! Combine this stop with a stop in the Stockyards!
Dinosaur Valley State Park
If looking to take your pup on a bit of a road trip from Dallas, head south to Glen Rose, TX. Glen Rose is home to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Your pup will love playing in the river, hiking on the trails, and even searching for real dinosaur tracks!
Tip! Be sure to check with the park before visiting to ensure the river is healthy enough for swimming!
Coyote Island Drive-In
Coyote Drive-in is open 7 days a week. You can purchase your tickets at the gate beginning at 6:00 pm (8 dollars for adults, 4 for children). They are currently playing one movie on each of their four screens. After choosing your movie, head over to the Coyote Canteen for all the movie snacks. Check out their current showings here!

- Happiest Hour: A large outdoor patio with outdoor bars, yard games, and a full menu.
- Katy Trail Icehouse: Probably the MOST popular place in Dallas, but there is a HUGE patio and tasty BBQ. It is located right on the Katy Trail so it’s perfect to combine with a walk. I recommend stopping by first so you can get on the waitlist, then take a walk while you wait.

- Dot’s Hop House & Cocktail Courtyard: A Deep Ellum gem with a string-light lit outdoor patio and 99 beers to choose from.

- Risky’s BBQ: The most delicious BBQ (and affordable) I’ve eaten! Add this to your list when you head to the Fort Worth Stockyards!
