Wisconsin Bucket List For Adventure-Lovers

You know I LOVE a good bucket list. I’m excited to share this one from my home state!

1. Take the Ferry to Madeline Island

Start your adventure with a scenic ferry ride to Madeline Island. This beautiful island offers stunning views of Lake Superior, unique shops, and charming restaurants. Spend the day hiking, biking, or simply relaxing on the beach. The ferry ride itself is an adventure, providing picturesque views and a refreshing lake breeze.

2. Explore Wisconsin Dells

Adventures in Wisconsin Dells.

Known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” Wisconsin Dells is a must-visit for families and thrill-seekers. Beyond the waterparks, explore the natural beauty of the Dells with a boat tour, visit the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum, or enjoy a scenic hike in Devil’s Lake State Park.

3. Chase Waterfalls

Wisconsin is home to numerous beautiful waterfalls. From the majestic Big Manitou Falls in Pattison State Park to the serene Copper Falls in Copper Falls State Park, there’s no shortage of breathtaking cascades to discover. Pack a picnic, grab your pup, and lace up your hiking boots for a day (or week) of waterfall hopping.

4. Visit the Capitol

No trip to Wisconsin is complete without a visit to the Capitol in Madison. Take a guided tour of the stunning building, admire its impressive architecture, and enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck. The Capitol Square also hosts a vibrant farmers market and numerous local festivals.

5. Relax in Door County

Door County, often referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest,” is a perfect getaway for relaxation. Enjoy the charming small towns, visit local wineries, and take in the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan. Don’t miss the chance to experience a traditional fish boil.

6. Watch a Packer Game

Experience the excitement of a Green Bay Packers game at the legendary Lambeau Field. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just enjoy a good game, the energy and passion of Packer fans are contagious. Tailgating is a must-do tradition before the game.

BUT remember to pack all.the.layers. as it can get COLD (learn from my mistakes).

7. Riverboat in Taylors Falls

Riverboat in Taylors Falls.

Taylors Falls is one of my favorite weekend getaways in Wisconsin. Head to this charming city for a scenic riverboat tour along the St. Croix River. Marvel at the dramatic rock formations and lush greenery. The peaceful river cruise is a perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

8. Beach Day at Wisconsin Point

Wisconsin Point offers one of the longest freshwater sandbars in the world. Spend a sunny day lounging on the beach, swimming in Lake Superior, and exploring the nearby lighthouse. It’s a great spot for a relaxing beach day away from the crowds. It’s my favorite place to search for sea glass, have a picnic, and simply enjoy the splendor of the lake.

9. Go Spelunking at Cave of the Mounds in Blue Mounds

For an underground adventure, visit the Cave of the Mounds in Blue Mounds. This National Natural Landmark features stunning limestone formations, guided tours, and a cool, constant temperature year-round. It’s an awe-inspiring experience for all ages and a must on any Wisconsin bucket list.

10. Climb to the Top of Wisconsin’s Highest Natural Point at Timm’s Hill in Price County

Take a hike to Timm’s Hill, the highest natural point in Wisconsin. The trail to the summit is accessible and offers rewarding views of the surrounding countryside. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking panorama. Bonus points if you can plan this for peak fall foliage. It’s magical!

11. Go on a Shipwreck Tour off the Lake Michigan Coastline near Manitowoc

Explore the fascinating history of shipwrecks off the coast of Lake Michigan near Manitowoc. Join a guided tour to learn about maritime history and see some of the well-preserved shipwrecks that lie beneath the lake’s surface. It’s a unique and educational adventure.

If you aren’t interested in getting out on the water, you can check out the museum (or both!)

12. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride over Lake Geneva during the Fall

Experience the stunning fall colors of Wisconsin from above with a hot air balloon ride over Lake Geneva. The vibrant autumn foliage, combined with the serene lake views, creates an unforgettable experience. This is a perfect adventure for those looking to see Wisconsin from a new perspective.
