If you are anything like me, you LOVE being immersed in nature and hiking, BUT you also like a comfy bed to sleep in at night. Well, I have found the PERFECT solution. Ocotillos Village is a community of wooden tents with a plexiglass roof, door, AND a cozy bed. That means you can stargaze and listen to the great outdoors WITHOUT having to sleep on the hard ground or worry about setting up or takedown. It is the perfect place for some West Texas Stargazing!
Yep, i’m OBSESSED.

Where is it located?
Ocotillos Village is located in Terlingua and yes, it is in the middle of nowhere. BUT I promise you a West Texas road trip is completely worth it.
Once you get to West Texas, you will be met with unique attractions, amazing hikes, and miles and miles of fresh air.
Distance from….
- Big Bend National Park: 6.4 miles
- Terlingua Ghost Town: 1.5 miles
- Big Bend Ranch State Park: 15 miles
- Marfa, TX: 108 miles
What amenities are included?
The tent itself is equipped with a comfy queen-sized mattress, mattress cover, heat, air, and lights. You will need to bring your own pillows, sheets, and blankets. BUT, no need to worry about giving up other daily comforts. Each tent is also equipped with a mini-fridge AND coffee maker!
If you want to be even closer to the outdoors, Ocotillos Village also offers tent sites for a very affordable price!
On-site, there are also four (running water) toilets, sinks, two-indoor showers, and two outdoor showers.
Side note: Service is very spotty here. We have AT&T, and I was unable to call or surf the web and texts were slow. BUT that makes for the perfect excuse to turn off the phone and enjoy the great outdoors.
What is there to do nearby?
- Terlingua Ghost Town: Just down the street from your glamping tent, you will find the ruins of the Chisos Mining Company. You can take a free self-guided tour around the ghost town, through the cemetery, and then end your day with a meal at the historic Starlight Theatre. We also grabbed a bite to eat and enjoyed live music at the High Sierra Bar and Grill.
- Big Bend Ranch State Park: If you are traveling with your dog, Big Bend Ranch State Park offers two dog-friendly trails. Hoodoos Big Bend and Closed Canyon Trail- both offer awesome views, rivers, slot canyons, and unique rocks.
- Big Bend National Park: Marvel at the unique terrain and take some amazing hikes in the dessert, mountains, or by the river! If you are are not into hiking, you can take the scenic drive around the park!
- Alpine: With just over 6,000 people, Alpine is the largest town closest to Big Bend National Park. In Alpine, you will find the Museum of the Big Bend, the desk on top of Hancock Hill, and local restaurants and shops.
- Marfa: Before visiting West Texas, I had heard the most about Marfa. Unfortunately, we did not make it here during our trip, BUT if you have extra time you will find Prada Marfa, art galleries, and unique murals and shops. You can also check out the phenomenon of the Marfa Lights just minutes out of town.

I love any and all unique Airbnb’s, but this one may top the list. If you have ever traveled to West Texas or Big Bend, you are well aware that it is in the middle of nowhere and the culture is unique.
Ocotillo’s Village offered the opportunity to stay close to the park, partake in great West Texas stargazing, marvel at an amazing sunset, eat at the local restaurants, AND not have to forgo necessities (bed, toilets, showers).

West Texas Glamping Packing List
One of the reasons I’m not a bit fan of tent camping is due to the extensive packing list! Glamping offers a smaller list and less preparation! (I’ve linked my favorites below!)
- Sheets
- Pillows
- Sleeping Bags
- Travel towel
- Toiletries
- Headlamp
- Hiking shoes
- Hiking pack (with water bladder)
