Where to Stay?

Peach Tree Inn- Where to stay in Fredericksburg, TX

This was a last minute trip so we didn’t do much research, but we found the perfect AFFORDABLE hotel upon arrival.

The Peach Tree Inn (I mean the name itself should convince you to stay there), was located just blocks away from Main Street and we paid less than 70 dollars per night! And they offered breakfast each morning!

I would suggest booking an accommodation close to Main Street as it made it extremely easy to walk back and forth and not have to worry about driving!

Things to do in Fredericksburg, TX:

1. Wine Tasting along Wine Road 290

Wine Tasting along Wine Road 209. Things to do in Fredericksburg, TX

Wine Road 290 is home to 22 wineries. Does it get any better?! Obviously you cannot visit all 22 in one day… šŸ™ , so it is important to know a bit of background before planning your wine tasting trip.

Should you book a guided tour?

We debated whether or not to book a Wine tour or get an Uber at each stop. After we arrived in Fredericksburg, we found the service (with AT&T) to be a bit spotty. For this reason, we decided it would be safer to book a tour rather than getting stranded at each winery.

We booked the Ruby Tour with Majesty Tours and it was an AWESOME time.

While on the tour, you stop at three different wineries (you can request certain wineries beforehand), and you get a mid winery snack! They even pick you up and drop you off right at your Fredricksburg accommodation!

It cost 95 dollars (on a weekday) and all tastings, snacks, and transportation were included. You can also bring your own drinks and additional snacks on the bus!

Tip:: If you visit on a Saturday, there is a shuttle that travels along Wine Road and stops at ALL the wineries. It is 30 dollars for an all-day shuttle pass, but you do have to pay for the tastings at each spot.

Okay on to the Wineries…

Stop 1: Safari Winery

Safari Winery, Fredericksburg, TX Wine Tasting, Wine Tour

Safari Winery imports all its wine from Chile and South Africa. The inside is decorated with different animals and safari decor. There is a beautiful backyard with tables and trees.

Once we arrived, we were seated at a table and given a menu of wines. We were able to circle the 5 different wines that we wanted to taste.

Our server was awesome and willing to allow us to try additional wines to have the best experience!

Stop 2: Grape Creek Winery

Grape Creek Vineyard, Wine Tasting, Wine Tour, Fredericksburg, TX

Grape Creek Vineyard was my favorite winery! They had a BEAUTIFUL vineyard outside, and the best (sweet) wine.

We choose which tasting we wanted (sweet, mixed, or red) and were given the tasting at the counter.

I’m not a huge wine fan, so I loved the sweet menu!

Stop 3: Bingham Winery

Bingham Winery, Wine Tasting, Wine Tour, Fredericksburg, TX

Bingham Winery was our last stop.

Once we arrived, we were given the choice of 5 different menus. I chose the sweet menu again, but this wine tasted the most “winey” to me (is that a word??)

But, if you are more of a professional, you may enjoy it!

After the tasting, there is a large boutique store onsite.

Tip::: if you are planning to visit the wineries without a tour, make sure to check the websites to see if a reservation is required.

Historic Main Street is so cute! You will find many shops, candy stores, and restaurants. Many Wineries also have tasting rooms set up along the street.

This was recommended to us by locals. It is located a couple miles away from Main Street and was a quick hike (less than .5 mile round trip).

Once you arrive at the top, you will see a view of the city, a giant cross, and some benches to relax. It would be a fun and easy spot for a picnic with a view!

It is an extremely busy park, and we were lucky enough to get the last reservation for our second day in Fredricksburg. There is an 8 dollar fee per person that you will pay online when you make your reservation.

Once we arrived, we found a parking spot, used the bathroom on site, and took off up the GIANT rock.

It is a 1.3-mile hike moderately difficult hike. It is short, but you are ascending the entire time. Make sure you bring a good pair of hiking shoes!

Picking berries in Fredericksburg, TX- Things to do during your weekend trip to Fredericksburg, TX

We quickly realized that Fredericksburg loves its peaches. We had Peach margaritas, peach beer, and peach pie, so we knew we needed to make a stop at Jenschke Orchards.

Once we arrived, we soon found out that Peaches were not quite in season. We decided to pick some blackberries and strawberries instead.
