Optimizing my Health: Huel Review

This post strays a bit from a detailed travel itinerary, buuuut I want to start writing more about life, the good, the bad, and everything else in between. In the past year, I’ve struggled with a multitude of health issues. Nothing serious, but just not feeling like myself. Constant stomach pains, severe fatigue, brain fog, etc. etc. etc. I saw drs, had CT’s, and took all the normal steps and was left with “Welll, you’re in your 30s now, so it could just be your new normal.

I struggled to take this as my final answer and refuse to believe that you should feel like sh*t when you are 30. Soooo, I went down the holistic health rabbit hole to try to truly optimize the way I feel.

I’ll eventually write more about other things I’ve tried/loved/hated/etc, but this one is focused on all things Huel. So, without further ado, here’s my honest review of Huel products!

Full Disclosure: Throughout this series, some of the products were gifted to me, while others were purchased with my hard-earned teacher’s salary. If I found them to be helpful, I have also applied to be an affiliate for the company. As an affiliate, I receive a small commission when you use my links at NO extra cost to you 🙂 I was gifted my first set of Huel products (I’ve since purchased more), and the links are affiliates! I appreciate your support!

About Huel

Huel products.

Huel (a mash-up of “human” and “fuel”) is a British company founded in 2014 by Julian Hearn and nutritionist James Collier, creating plant-based, nutritionally complete meals, snacks, and drinks meant to deliver all essential macros and micronutrients in one product. Their products are vegan, sustainably made, and designed with convenience in mind…sometimes exactly what you need when your body and schedule both feel off-kilter.

Huel Daily Greens

Huel daily greens

My personal favorite Huel product has been the daily greens. It’s a super-greens powder loaded with 91 vitamins, minerals, superfoods, antioxidants, adaptogens, and probiotics in just one scoop.

I’ve wanted to incorporate daily greens into my day for months, and now that I have, I don’t think I’ll ever go without them again. I was a bit worried I wouldn’t like the earthy taste (as others mention in reviews), but I find it to be super tasty! I just mix it with 2 ice cubes and 10 ounces of water and have it with my eggs every morning.

If you don’t like the taste, Huel offers other flavors (I haven’t tried them yet) OR I’ve heard that others like to mix the powder with almond milk or juice.

Huel Energy Drinks

Huel energy drinks

As a non-coffee drinker, energy drinks are my go-to. So far, I’ve tried Huel’s pineapple mango and blue raspberry energy drinks, and both were carbonated with a sweet fruity flavor. Each drink has 200 mg of caffeine, no artificial flavors or colors, 27 vitamins and minerals, and 1039 mg of electrolytes.

Huel Ready-to-Drink Meals

For others 9-5ers, who are always on the go, Huel’s ready-to-drink meals are perfect to have on hand for the days that are just toooo busy. These drinks are nutritionally complete bottled meals with around 35g of protein, all 27 essential vitamins and minerals, a mix of whole-food carbs, healthy fats, and fiber…no prep required. There are currently 6 different flavors on the website! I want to try Cookies and cream next!

In the past, I’ve been guilty of not loving meal replacement drinks due to the chalky taste or not feeling full, but these tasted great and I was full until dinner when I had one for lunch.

Huel Hot Meals

I haven’t tried these yet, but Huel’s Hot & Savory Meals would be great to pack for weekend getaways or camping trips. They come in cups and packs and both are ready in minutes. All you have to do is add hot water! Each is packed with plant-based protein and 27 essential nutrients and up to 25 grams of protein.

They are a great way to save a bit of money while traveling, while still eating a healthy and hearty meal! I wish I had had these to save a bit of money in Iceland or Switzerland (because we all know these are NOT budget-friendly countries!)

Huel Protein Powder & Bars

Although I’m not a big fan of protein drinks, I love using protein powder in various homemade treats! Huel’s chocolate protein powder was perfect for this! There are 20 grams of protein per serving and 27 vitamins and minerals. Huel also has strawberry and vanilla flavors that I’m excited to try next!

And, finally, Huel’s complete nutrition bars are also perfect for us 9-5ers and travelers! I’m known for always keeping some sort of granola bar in my bag (no matter where I go), and now Huel bars are the go-to. There are 5 flavors to choose from and each bar has up to 14 grams of protein and 150 health benefits.

Final Thoughts: Huel Review

As I’m on the hunt to figure out what’s “wrong” with my health, finding Huel was a great step along the way. I’m really working on reclaiming my energy and immune system so I’m hopeful that the addition of daily greens and healthy snacks/drinks will help. I’m not a doctor nor am I making any claims, just sharing what I’m currently trying and seeing.

Would I recommend it? Yes! So long as it’s paired with whole foods and used as a tool.

Let me know if you want a deeper dive into any specific product or even recipes and hacks to make them more enjoyable. I’d love to share more of what’s helping me feel like me again.
