In this blog post, I’ve compiled a list of the top dog-friendly things to do (+ where to eat & stay) in Los Angeles.

Dog-friendly Things to Do in Los Angeles

Surprisingly enough, there are so many dog-friendly things to do in Los Angeles. Although most well-known for crowded streets and Hollywood, there’s ample room for your dog to get out and explore. Keep reading for the best dog-friendly beaches, hikes, and unique attractions in and near Los Angeles!

1. Visit Rosie’s Dog Beach

There’s nothing cuter than an excited dog racing around the beach. Get your tan on while your bestie makes new doggy friends at Rosie’s Dog Beach. This popular off-leash dog beach is located in Long Beach, California, and is 3 acres wide. It’s one of the best dog-friendly attractions in the United States!

You can also check out Huntington Dog Beach, Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu, or head down to other dog-friendly beaches in Laguna Beach like Shaw’s Cove.

2. Hike Runyon Canyon

Love the outdoors? Head to one of LA’s iconic hiking trails. Runyon Canyon is beloved by locals for its views and sightings (both celeb and scenic!).

This popular hiking spot in the heart of Hollywood offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding hills. Just remember to bring plenty of water for your dog, and keep them on a leash. The trail is about 3 miles round trip and is considered moderately difficult.

Insider tip: There are water fountains at Runyon, but they’re located at the top of the hill so you’ll have to work for it.

3. Play at Silverlake Dog Park

Los Angeles has dozens of dog parks with plenty of space for your pup to run, play, and socialize with other dogs. Head to Silver Lake Dog Park for a win-win.

Stop by Intelligentsia Coffee and explore this artsy LA neighborhood before making your way to the dog park. Located at the Silver Lake Reservoir, there’s also a beautiful trail to walk with scenic views of the surrounding hillsides.

4. Go on a Dog-Friendly Day Trip to Laguna Beach

There are tons of dog-friendly things to do in Laguna Beach. Hop in the car and head down the PCH to explore this Orange County gem with your best bud by your side.

You can sunbathe and play at dog-friendly Main Beach or head to Alta Laguna Park to hike to the Top of the World Lookout. While you’re there, make sure you go for a walk through Heisler Park to soak up some of the most gorgeous views in all of California!  

5. Corgi Beach Day

Corgi Beach Day is a fun annual event in Huntington Beach. Corgis take over the premises with races, a costume contest, and other adorable events. Corgi Beach Day is not limited to just corgis only; dog lovers and owners of any breed are also welcome to join in on the fun. 6. Relax at Rosenthal Wine Bar and Patio

What’s better than relaxing with a glass of wine and an ocean view? Doing it with your dog right beside you! Located in Malibu, California, Rosenthal Wine Bar sits just across from the beach. On Saturdays and Sundays, it gets even better when yummy food trucks make their way to Rosenthal.

7. Visit a Vineyard

Los Angeles actually has several dog-friendly vineyards where you can enjoy wine and cheese while your pup relaxes nearby. Some of the top dog-friendly vineyards include San Antonio Winery near Dodger Stadium and the Strange Family Vineyards (Malibu tasting room) just 30 miles out of the city.

8. Catch a movie at Wooftop: Cinema Club

Did you know LA’s popular outdoor movie screening series Rooftop: Cinema Club has dog-friendly showings? That’s right. You and your favorite four-legged friends can watch all sorts of classics together on the best rooftops in Los Angeles. Just look for the puppy symbol next to the ticket selection to see which shows allow pets.

9. Hit up a Dog-Friendly Brewery

Happy Hour just isn’t the same when your dog is stuck indoors. Luckily, Los Angeles has several dog-friendly breweries where you can enjoy a pint of beer while you spend time with your favorite furry friend. A few top spots include Angel City Brewery in Downtown LA, Golden Road Brewing in Atwater Village, and Three Weavers Brewing Company in Inglewood.

1. The Morrison

The Morrison in Atwater Village promises a great time for both dogs and their owners. The restaurant offers a spacious outdoor patio where your furry friend can join you while you eat. The staff is always very welcoming and often give out water bowls and treats for dogs. The relaxed atmosphere and pet-friendly environment makes it a great spot to socialize with other dog owners.

The Fat Dog

Visiting The Fat Dog in the North Hollywood Arts District is always a good idea. This laidback gastropub has the perfect dog-friendly patio where you can enjoy drinks with your canine companion. You can get all kinds of craft beer and cocktails here as well as delicious sandwiches like the Short Rib French Dip, for a shockingly low LA price of just $14! If you never want to eat anywhere but The Fat Dog again, I understand.

3. The Blue Dog Beer Tavern

Taking your dog to the Blue Dog Beer Tavern in Sherman Oaks is a must for any dog owner. With a spacious outdoor patio and their very own designated dog menu, this tavern goes above and beyond to cater to four-legged visitors. The friendly staff ensures your dog feels welcome, providing water bowls, treats, and plenty of pets. As far as the human menu goes, they’ve got great burgers, wings and a large selection of local, craft beer.
