I recently returned from a trip to Germany for Oktoberfest, and while wandering through its charming medieval villages, I couldn’t help but imagine how magical they must look during the Christmas season. While a European holiday escape isn’t in the plans this year, I’ve discovered that I don’t have to travel across the ocean to soak up that festive, old-world charm. Luckily, the U.S. is home to some incredible Christmas markets that capture the same spirit. Here’s my list of the best Christmas Markets in the US to visit this holiday season!

The Best Christmas Markets in the United States

If you’ve ever dreamed of sipping mulled wine, wandering through twinkling lights, and shopping for handcrafted gifts in cozy wooden huts, you don’t need to book a flight to Europe. The U.S. has some incredible Christmas markets of its own! Here are 21 of the best Christmas markets across the United States to add to your holiday travel list in 2025

1. Christkindlmarket (Chicago, Illinois)

  • Dates: November 21 – December 24, 2025
  • Entry Price: Free
  • Location: Daley Plaza, Chicago, IL

One of the most famous German-style Christmas markets in the U.S., Chicago’s Christkindlmarket transforms Daley Plaza into a festive winter wonderland. Expect authentic German food, handcrafted ornaments, and plenty of holiday cheer. You’ll find over 55 gift vendors, 15 food vendors, and live entertainment. And, if you’re up for a bit of a road trip, there’s another Christkindlmarket in Wrigleyville which has different vendors and an ice skating rink!

2. Union Square Holiday Market (New York, New York)

A holiday staple in the Big Apple, this market brings over 180 vendors into alpine-style chalets. It’s the perfect place to pick up unique gifts, enjoy seasonal treats, and soak up the festive holiday atmosphere of New York City. It’s definitely on my bucket list to visit NYC at Christmastime.

3. Old World Christmas Market (Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin)

  • Location: The Osthoff Resort, Elkhart Lake, WI

Set inside a heated tent at the picturesque Osthoff Resort, this market truly feels like stepping into Europe. Shop artisan gifts, ride in horse-drawn wagons, and enjoy authentic German cuisine. It’s only open for 10 days so be sure to plan your trip carefully!

4. Great Dickens Christmas Fair (Daly City, California)

  • Dates: Weekends, November 22 – December 21, 2025
  • Entry Price: Varies, typically $25–$45 depending on date/ticket type
  • Location: Cow Palace Exhibition Halls, Daly City, CA

Step into Victorian London at this immersive fair near San Francisco. With costumed performers, themed pubs, and shops selling handmade goods, it’s more than just a market! You have to book tickets online and in advance as no tickets are available onsite. Tickets are also date-specific with special add-ons available (pub crawls, chocolate tasting, etc).

5. Denver Christkindlmarket (Denver, Colorado)

This Rocky Mountain market blends European traditions with Colorado charm. And, although many people disagree with me (on social media), I still think Denver is one of the most magical Christmas cities! Enjoy bratwurst, mulled wine, and festive entertainment at one of the most festive holiday events in the West.

6. Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)

  • Dates: November 14 – December 21, 2025 (weekends)
  • Entry Price: Around $12 for adults, kids 12 & under free (free on Fridays from 5-8)
  • Location: SteelStacks Campus, Bethlehem, PA

Known as “Christmas City,” Bethlehem hosts one of the most authentic German-style markets in the U.S. Expect artisan crafts, glass-blowing demonstrations, and plenty of festive music.

7. Peoples Gas Holiday Market (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

  • Dates: November 22 – December 24, 2025

  • Location: Market Square, Pittsburgh, PA

Wooden chalets fill Market Square with holiday spirit. Vendors from around the world offer unique gifts, while festive food and drink keep visitors cozy. Bring a donation for the local food bank and receive a special limited edition ornament! Plus, you’ll find an ice skating rink nearby and the world’s only approved replica of the Vatican’s Nativity Scene (Pittsburgh’s Creche).

This lively outdoor market features more than 70 rotating exhibitors selling handmade crafts, jewelry, and international gifts. Street performers and festive food stalls add to the atmosphere.

12. Carmel Christkindlmarkt (Carmel, Indiana)

One of the most authentic German markets in the Midwest, Carmel’s Christkindlmarkt features ice skating, a festive Biergarten, and plenty of traditional food and crafts (complete with live demonstrations!). 13. Portland Holiday Market (Portland, Oregon)

  • Dates: November 14 – 16, 2025

  • Location: Portland Expo Center, Portland, OR

This short but sweet market brings together artisans, specialty foods, and holiday décor. Santa makes an apperance and there are fun DIY workshops to partake in! It’s a great early-season event for holiday shopping if you happen to be in Portland at the right time.

14. Silverton Christmas Market (Silverton, Oregon)

  • Dates: November 21 – December 31, 2025
  • Entry Price: Around $20 adults, kids discounts available
  • Location: Oregon Garden Resort, Silverton, OR

Famous for its dazzling light displays (1.5 million to be exact), the Silverton Christmas Market also features a Biergarten, artisan booths, and even a tubing hill. It’s one of the most family-friendly holiday markets in the U.S. You do need timed entry tickets to visit!

15. ScanFair/Nordic Christmas Market (Portland, Oregon)

  • Dates: December 13 – 14, 2025
  • Entry Price: $12 adults, kids 12 & under free
  • Location: Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR

This market celebrates Nordic holiday traditions with Scandinavian crafts, food, and cultural performances. A must for anyone looking for a different twist on Christmas markets. But, it’s for one weekend only so plan wisley!

16. Baltimore Christmas Village (Baltimore, Maryland)

  • Dates: November 22 – December 24, 2025 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays)
  • Entry Price: Free weekdays; small fee weekends
  • Location: Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor comes alive with a German-style market featuring wooden huts, vendors from around the world, and festive performances.

17. Portland Bazaar (Portland, Oregon)

  • Dates: Multiple weekends: Nov 28–29, Dec 13–14 & Dec 20–21, 2025

Another Portland gem! Part pop-up market, part holiday festival, the Portland Bazaar focuses on local artisans and makers. It’s a great spot to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts.

18. Kerstmarkt (Holland, Michigan)

  • Location: 8th Street Market Place, Holland, MI

This Dutch-inspired Christmas market celebrates the city’s heritage with wooden booths, European treats, and festive decorations. Kerstmarkt is a must stop to those wanting a taste of the Netherlands in western Michigan.

19. Christkindlmarkt (Arlington, Texas)

  • Dates: December 5 – 21, 2025

  • Location: Texas Live! Arlington, TX

A Texas take on the German Christkindl tradition, this market features festive food, live entertainment, and unique holiday shopping. I live 20 minutes from this one so it’s definitley on the list this year!

20. Holiday Market at Bryant Park (NYC, New York)

  • Dates: October 24, 2025 – January 5, 2026

  • Location: Bryant Park, NYC

One of NYC’s most iconic winter experiences, the Holiday Market at Bryant Park includes dozens of kiosks, an ice rink, and holiday-themed dining options. This market opens early and it doesn’t get more fesitve than NYC at Christmastime.

21. Christmas in the Park (San Jose, California)

  • Dates: November 28, 2025 – January 1, 2026
  • Entry Price: Free
  • Location: Plaza de César Chávez, San Jose, CA

This family-friendly holiday festival includes decorated Christmas trees, food vendors, live entertainment, and a market filled with seasonal gifts. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to avoid the freezing temps of some of the other Christmas markets.
